What Is IV Ketamine Infusion Therapy?
December 15, 2020
Intravenous (IV) ketamine infusion therapy is when ketamine is administered into a patient’s vein so it can reach the bloodstream directly. This is so the patient can experience the positive mental and physical effects associated with ketamine quickly and safely.
Infusion therapy typically consists of a course of six treatments, also known as an “induction phase.” These are given over the time span of 2-3 weeks with each treatment given about every 2-3 days.
Each ketamine infusion lasts 45 minutes and is followed by 30 minutes of post-infusion relaxation. Booster treatments are administered every 3-6 weeks depending on the patient’s needs.
